How Do I Configure Convergence to Collect Mails From Other Accounts?

You can create a new account to collect external mails.

To configure Convergence to collect email from other accounts, perform the following steps:

  1. Click New Account node under the External Accounts node in the left navigation panel.

A new tab titled External Accounts is displayed in the central panel with the following options:

    • Account Info: Requires user information that you must provide for the external account.

    • Incoming Server: Specifies the incoming server details that you must provide for the external account.

    • Account Review: Enables you to review the account settings. You can also modify the settings by going to the previous screens using the Previous button.

    • Results: Collects all the emails from the external account.

Type the user information in the Account Info page by using the following options:

    • Your name: Display name for this account. This name appears when you compose or reply to messages for this account. This name appears as part of the sender's identity.

    • Email Address: Email address for this account. This email address appears as the From email address when this account is used as the identity for sending mail.

    • Account Name: Name for this account. Your account is identified with this name under the External Accounts node.

  2. Click Next.

    The Incoming Server page appears.

On this page, enter the properties related to the external account.

    The following options are displayed:

    • Server Name: Type the server name and port number that Convergence should use to get the external email.

By default the port number 110 is used. If you want Convergence to collect your email using SSL (Secure Socket Layer), select the SSL option under the Security section By default None is selected. If you use SSL, the corresponding port number is changed to 995 (the default SSL port). If your server uses a customized SSL port, you must change the port number accordingly.

    • Choose the folder into which you want to collect external mail. By default all external email is collected in the Inbox. If you want your external emails to be stored in a separate folder, click on the Select button.

The pop up window appears where you can select the folder into which you want to store your incoming external mails.

    • Select the Delete Mail From the Server after Getting check box if you want to delete the mail from the external server after getting the email.

    • Type the login or user name for the external account in the Login/User name text field

    • Type the password for the external mail in the Password field.

    • Re-type the password in the Confirm password field.

    • Enable the Remember password checkbox if you want Convergence to remember your password.

The password is saved as part of your user preferences.

  3. Click Next.

The Account Review page appears. Review the account details that you provided to ensure the information is correct. To change any information, click the Previous button.

  4. Click Finish to create the external mail configuration.

The Results page appears. Convergence authenticates the user against the external server and gets the email based on the inputs provided.

The node is created with the new account information under the External Accounts tree. A new identity is created based on the information provided for the external account. This is available under the Identities tree in Mail preferences. To know more about identity settings, see How Do I Set Identity Settings for my Default or External Accounts?
